Armenia to increase international community's awareness of refugee issues

Housing issue is one of the most serious ones currently faced by Armenian refugees from Azerbaijan, according to the head of migration department at the Armenian Ministry of Territorial Administration.

As Gagik Yeghanyan told a news conference in Yerevan, since 2004, Armenian government has been undertaking certain steps to resolve the issue, with USD 3-5 million financing to be allocated.

“However, the global crisis prevented the project from being continued in 2010-2011, inducing 1175 families go on living in hostels,” he stressed.

As Mr. Yeghanyan noted, the conference was organized to increase international community's awareness of Armenian refugee issues. “The invitation was sent to over 25 international and 30 pan-Armenian organisations, with many of them responding to it,” he said.
