Iranologist, associate professor of the Department of Iranian Studies at Yerevan State University Vardan Voskanyan said there are contradictions between Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and religious leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, but they are not as deep, as presented by media.

“It seems that a new wing focused on Iranian national values is being formed in the political establishment of the country, what has served as a reason for insignificant discrepancies. There is an impression that the Iranian President wants to combine values of Islam with the Iranian national idea,” said Voskanyan.

According to him, Iran’s internal stability and territorial integrity are important for Armenia.

“It is among indirect components of Armenia’s national security. I would like to recall the recent statement from the Iranian embassy in Yerevan that conflicts should be solved with taking into consideration the nation’s right to self-determination, what caused Baku’s indignation,” Voskanyan concluded.
