MP: Armenian Genocide recognition by Israel to take long time

The Armenian delegation to the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly had a meeting with the Israeli delegation in February to discuss Meretz party’s initiative on adoption of a resolution recognizing the Armenian Genocide, an Armenian MP said.

“The Armenian side welcomed the initiative, although the process promises to be long one. Turkish and Azerbaijani lobbies will spare no effort to block adoption of a resolution recognizing the Armenian Genocide,” chairman of the standing parliamentary committee of human rights Aram Safaryan told a PanARMENIAN.Net reporter.

With a 20-0 vote, the Knesset decided on a discussion of the Armenian Genocide issue at the education and culture panel. Knesset speaker Reuven Rivlin said, that “the conflict between Turks and Armenians can be a justification for the denial of a nation’s tragedy. It’s our moral duty, as Jews and just as people, to recognize this atrocity.”
