Economy monopolization hampers science development in Armenia

The head of the Armenian Astronomic Society believes that the sphere of science in Armenia drops far behind the countries worldwide.

As Areg Mikaelyan noted at news conference, Armenia is losing competitiveness. “While an intellectual nation, Armenians are not using their advantage. The youth has no respect for science and scientists,” Mikaelyan said, adding that at present the profession of a scientist is looked down on.

The director of the Center for Ecological Noosphere Studies Armen Saghatelyan, in turn, explained the current situation with science by political and economic crisis. According to him, elimination of monopoly in economy is the only way to develop science in Armenia.
