The winners of Cannes International Film Festival have been announced. As it was expected, Palme d'Or went to The Tree of Life by Terrence Malick.

The other winners are:

Best First Film: Las Acacias, Pablo Giorgelli. Delicate yet rigorously executed, road movie touchingly unfolds a passing-ships encounter between a truck driver and a mother who hires him to get her from Paraguay to Buenos Aires.

Jury Prize: Polisse, Maiwenn. The film was described as a powerhouse of emotional jolts, freewheeling comedy and socially-minded storytelling.

Best Screenplay: Joseph Cedar, Footnote, Cedar, who won an Oscar nomination for his 2007 film "Beaufort" about the Israeli army's withdrawal from southern Lebanon, did not appear to accept the prize.

Best Short Film: Cross Country, Maryna Vroda.

Best Actress: Kirsten Dunst, Melancholia. The actress was honored for her portrayal of a depressed woman at the end of the world in Lars von Trier's 'Melancholia'. Von Trier himself was not in the auditorium, following the controversy over his earlier press conference jokes about Hitler.

Best Director: Nicolas Winding Refn, Drive. The film is starring Ryan Gosling as a stuntman who moonlights as a getaway car driver.

Best Actor: Jean Dujardin, The Artist. Dujardin won the prize for his role as a silent movie star struggling to deal with talkies.

Grand Prize (second place): Anatolia by Nuri Ceylan. Kid on a Bike by Dardennes.
