Taliban leader Mullah Mohmmad Omar reportedly killed in Pakistan

Taliban leader Mullah Mohmmad Omar has been found and killed in Pakistan, TOLOnews reports, quoting a source in the Afghan National Directorate of Security (NDS) who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

Mullah Omar was shot dead as he was being moved from Quetta to North Waziristan by former ISI chief Gen. Hamid Gul, the source said. According to the source, Mullah Omar has been killed two days ago. Foreign sources have not yet confirmed the death.

NDS spokesman Lutfullah Mashal said he confirms that Mullah Omar was moved from Quetta to Waziristan two days ago, but cannot yet confirm the death. "We confirm that Gen. Hamid Gul moved him from Quetta to North Waziristan two days ago, but we cannot confirm his death right now," he said.

Meanwhile, according to Reuters, the Taliban in Afghanistan rejected on Monday unsourced media reports that its leader, Mullah Mohammad Omar, had been killed in Pakistan, saying he is alive and in Afghanistan.

"He is in Afghanistan safe and sound," Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid told Reuters by telephone from an undisclosed location. "We reject these baseless reports that Mullah Mohammad Omar has been killed."
