Nezavisimaya Gazeta editor-in-chief: Azeri authorities aren’t acting as adults

The editor-in-chief of Nezavisimaya Gazeta Russian newspaper Konstantin Remchukov commented on Azerbaijan’s blacklisting the deputy editor-in-chief of Echo of Moscow (Ekho Moskvy) radio station Sergei Buntman over his visit to Karabakh.

“Azeri authorities aren’t acting as adults. They’re aware of the liberal-democratic and, clearly, objective nature of the radio station,” he stated.

According to Remchukov, Buntman has earned a reputation of a conscientious journalist. “Azeri statements and nervous response not only discredit the country, but also suggest it has much to hide,” Nezavisimaya Gazeta editor-in-chief stressed.

Ekho Moskvy radio station editor-in-chief Alexei Venediktov, outraged over announcing editor-in-chief of the radio station Sergey Buntman a persona non grata Azerbaijan, plans to appeal to President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, News.az reported.

"A journalist has a right to gather information and the Ekho Moskvy radio station will further use this right regardless of Foreign Ministries’ instructions," he said.
