Swedish Parliament’s adoption of Armenian Genocide resolution is a mere unlucky coincidence, according to Turkish parliamentary speaker.

As Mehmet Ali Shahin stated during Ankara-hosted meeting with his Swedish counterpart Per Westerberg, parliaments must not assume the role of historians, leaving analysis of 1915 events to the experts.

Westerberg expressed his support for Shahin’s position, AA reported.

On March 11, the Parliament of Sweden recognized the Armenian Genocide after a long debate with a vote of 131 to 130. The resolution mandates Sweden to officially describe the large-scale murders of Armenians and other ethnic groups in Turkey in the early years of the last century as Genocide.
