Release of imprisoned accomplices in March 1-2, 2008 disorders still unclear

Armenian Minister of Justice Hrayr Tovmasyan said that, according to the Armenian President’s suggestion, 396 prisoners will be released under the amnesty to be announced.

Besides, the term of imprisonment of other 379 convicted will be cut, Tovmasyan said in the parliament, presenting the President’s amnesty proposal.

Responding to MP Vardan Khachatryan’s question whether the amnesty will be granted to people imprisoned with respect to the March 1-2, 2008 events, Tovmasyan gave an uncertain answer.

“I do not personally know all of 396 prisoners who will be released. You can look at the text of the proposal and see if the provisions envisaging release comply with the articles, under which these people were convicted,” Tovmasyan said.
