Head of the Center for Aid and Rehabilitation to the Victims of Destructive Cults, Alexander Amaryan said the free circulation of literature of Jehovah’s Witnesses should be forbidden in Armenia. “The literature of Jehovah’s Witnesses is forbidden in Russia as a whole, as it is considered to be an extremist one,” Amaryan told a press conference in Yerevan, expressing surprise over the fact that it is freely spread in Armenia.

He urged relevant institutions to deal with the matter and thoroughly study this literature prior to publication.

Father Shmavon Ghevondyan of St. Hovhannes Church said for his part: “Due to some reasons, our officials are afraid of sanctions, which can possibly follow the ban. But Jehovah’s Witnesses are forbidden in France, a country which was not labeled as a non-democratic state because of such decision.”
