Expert: Israel committed mistake, failing to recognize Armenian Genocide

World renowned genocide expert, presidential award laureate Dr. Israel Charny issued a statement to thank Armenian people and President Serzh Sargsyan for the award extended in recognition of his struggle against genocide denial.

Specifically, the statement reads: “Israel has committed a mistake, failing to recognize the Armenian Genocide. I have repeatedly stated that we have won from the perspective of the Armenian Genocide recognition in Israeli culture, press and among the public.”

Charny added that Knesset is expected to hold hearings on the Armenian Genocide recognition. “As a whole, Knesset held a voting on hearings of the mater for the third time in Israel’s history,” he said, adding that any voting is a step forward for the Armenian Genocide recognition.

“Our opposition representatives managed to frustrate the Genocide recognition process earlier. But his time the offer on holding hearings was transferred to the committee of Education, Culture and Sports,” noted Charny.

Charny added that earlier he and his colleagues were not optimistic about the mater, but there are greater chances for success today.

A vote for transferring the issue of Armenian Genocide recognition to the committee of Education, Culture and Sports headed by Alex Miller was held in Knesset, with the initiative unilaterally approved on May 18.

The initiative was advanced by a member of the Knesset for Meretz Zahava Gal-On who replaced the head of the party, main lobbyist of Armenia Haim Oron.
