Tourists mislead as to Armenian cultural heritage in Turkey

Signs set next to cultural monuments in Turkey are misleading the tourists, describing Armenian cultural heritage as Turkish, according to oriental studies expert.

As Raffi Kortoshyan told a news conference in Yerevan, Turkey is consistently striving to either destroy or appropriate Armenian monuments.

The expert cited reconstruction of monuments in Ani destroying any signs of Armenian heritage as an example.

The chairman of Armenian Cultural Foundation Samvel Karapetyan, in turn, stressed that no Armenian expert has yet participated in reconstruction works. Mr. Karapetyan expressed concern over distortion of the monuments’ architecture during reconstruction process, which could have been prevented, were Armenian experts invited to participate.
