Armenia’s life prisoners demand separate jail

Head of Helsinki Citizens' Civil Assembly Vanadzor Office, human rights defender Arthur Sakunts said life prisoners demand establishment of a separate jail for them in Armenia.

“Life-term prisoners do not want to be governed by head of Nubarashen prison,” Sakunts said during a discussion on problems of life-term prisoners in Armenia.

Besides, Sakunts referred to nutrition of life-term prisoners, as well as organization of their walks and meetings with relatives. “Under the Armenian law, life-term prisoners have the right to one-hour walk a day. But they are deprived of this opportunity, their walk being restricted to two hours per week,” said Sakunts.

According to him, life prisoners are completely isolated, having access neither to mobile phones, nor internet.
