Curation social media websites introduced at BarCamp Yerevan 2011

At BarCamp Yerevan 2011, the organizer and participant of the event, Gegham Vardanyan delivered a presentation covering Curation websites. The websites described serve as a platform to new media journalists, enabling creation of history.

Mr. Vardanyan cited Storify.com, Scoop.it and Storyful.com as the most popular websites serving the purpose.

At Storify, anyone can create an account to tell stories with social media; Scoop.it allows to create topic-centric media by collecting gems among relevant streams, Storyful uses the power of social networks to create an authentic, cooperative and socially useful journalism.

According to Mr. Vardanyan, students might find Curation websites useful in selection of study material, with a number of sources to pick form. The websites, complete with “following” feature, also serve as social networks.

A browser widget at Scoop.it allows bookmark and publish the articles of interest, Vardanyan noted.
