Israel uses the Armenian Genocide issue as trump against Turkey, an expert said.
“Israel will not use this trump card unless it gets another one,” fellow at Noravank foundation, head of Armenian studies center Aristakes Simavoryan told a press conference in Yerevan.
As a second trump card, Simavoryan outlined possible adoption of a resolution criminalizing the Armenian Genocide denial.
However, according to him, Israel will hardly be willing to spoil relations with Turkey. “Israel’s recognition of the Genocide would certainly help improve relations with Armenia. But it’s obvious that the discussion of the issue by the Knesset panel is aimed against Turkey,” he said, adding that the process has already transformed into a political show.
Simavoryan did not exclude that the Knesset’s education committee will shelve the issue for months and even years.
