Turkey’s Grand Unity Party leader resigns

Grand Unity Party (BBP) leader Yalçın Topçu announced his resignation on Sunday, June 12, after a defeat in parliamentary elections.

In a statement he released on his party's website, Topçu said he bears the blame for the current failure and that there is no word to be said after the people of a democracy have spoken.

Noting that people had made their views clear at the ballot box, Topçu said he is leaving his post as BBP leader, a post he rose to after the death of the party's former leader, Muhsin Yazıcıoğlu. Topçu said party officials will decide on June 15 where the future fate of the party lies, Today’s Zaman reported.
