30% of Yerevan’s elevators should have long been withdrawn from service, according to the director of National Center for Technical Security at Emergency Situations Ministry.

As Ashot Petrosyan told a news conference in Yerevan, approx. 5650 elevators are operating in Armenia; 1190 of them belong to administrative buildings; 4485- to housing stocks.

“Only last year, 462 elevators were given negative technical conclusion, with the majority of them situated in Yerevan’s Malatiya-Sebastia community,” the expert said.

According to Petrosyan, over the last 5 years 222 accidents were reported at dangerous sites, only 4 of them were caused by elevator malfunctions.
