Armenia has transformed into a country existing due to exploitation of deposits, according to Karine Danielyan, the chair of the association For Sustainable Human Development
“There are 500 deposits in the country, whereas 300 are currently under development,” she told a press conference in Yerevan.
She also said that there are 15 large tailing dumps in the country poisoning the environment, let alone small landfills and dumps. “The profit from mining industry amounts to 3-4% of the country’s GDP. As a result of exploitation of a certain deposit only 0.7-0.8% of pure raw material is produced, nearly 99% making wastes.
