Armenian Energy Minister briefs IAEA on Armenian NPP safety

Armenian Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Armen Movsisyan presented a report on Nuclear Energy Development Program in Armenia at a ministerial conference of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna.

The conference was summoned on the initiative of IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano to strengthen nuclear safety throughout the world after the breakdown of Fukushima nuke plant in Japan.

Mr. Movsisyan, who headed the Armenian delegation at the conference, touched upon issues of strengthening of the operating energy block at the Armenian NPP, construction of a new power generating unit and conduction of stress-tests at the NPP, according to the RA Foreign Ministry’s press office.

The delegation included deputy minister of energy and natural resources Areg Galstyan, Permanent Representative of Armenia to the IAEA Ashot Hovakimian.

A wide range of experts will participate in working sessions, including representatives from nuclear regulatory agencies, technical service organizations, international organizations and NGOs.
