Yerevan may soon be deprived of drinking water

The Armenian capital may soon be deprived of drinking water, according to geologist Ruben Yadoyan.

As the expert explained at news conference in Yerevan, drinking water springs form where the water is supplied to Yerevan might be damaged once Kaputan mine exploitation starts. “No organization will be ready to cover the springs' restoration costs. From ecological viewpoint, loss of drinking water is the worst possible disaster,” he stressed.

Yadoyan predicted that water price will soon exceed that of oil. “Several years from now, drinking water will be of more value than oil; we have to treasure our springs,” he stressed.
