Russian MFA: Kazan meeting to be a landmark in Karabakh settlement

The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs came out with a statement with regard to Kazan meeting of Armenian, Azerbaijani and Russian Presidents.

“The meeting between President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan and President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev with participation of President of Russia Dmitri Medvedev is designed to serve as a landmark in Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement. We expect Baku and Yerevan to react constructively on the joint statement made on May 26 in Deauville by the Presidents of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chair countries, which contains a call upon the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan to demonstrate political will and finalize the basic principles (of a peace agreement) during the forthcoming summit in June,” the statement of the RF Foreign Ministry runs.

The document to be considered in Kazan is an outcome of joint work of the parties and co-chair countries within a substantial period of time, which provides a real ground for a comprehensive peace agreement to follow. We hope that on this ground the parties will reach consent for the sake of peace, prosperity and development of the entire region, according to the statement.
