Former Deputy FM of Iran Mohammad Sharif Malekzadeh arrested

Former Deputy Foreign Minister for Administrative and Financial Affairs Mohammad Sharif Malekzadeh has been arrested in Iran.

On June 18, Malekzadeh was appointed deputy foreign minister for financial affairs. Later, on June 21, he announced his resignation.

The same day, some Iranian MPs signed a document to impeach Foreign Minster Aliakbar Salehi because of appointing Mohammad Sharif Malekzadeh as deputy of administrative and financial affairs.

Malekzadeh, whom High Advisor to the President and Chief of Staff of the Presidential Office Esfandiyar Rahim Mashaei appointed earlier as the Secretary-General of the High Council of Iranian Affairs Abroad, is charged with corruption and violation of law.

Recently, Iranian Judicature System started massive investigations about some corruption dossiers about officials close to Mashaei, Fars news agency reported.
