Prime Minister of Armenia Tigran Sargsyan participated at the opening of the fourth Digitec business forum and Microsoft Innovative Forum.

“The forum is a ground enabling the government to communicate with all representatives of the sector to gain better understanding of priorities and tasks to be solved,” the Prime Minister said during the opening. He reminded that five years ago IT sector was announced a priority by the government, with the special council headed by him set up. Since then, steps have been undertaken for the resolution of problems in the sector and creation of favorable grounds for its development.

Sargsyan noted that over the last three years, the IT sector has been the leader for growth rate among other sectors of Armenian economy. In this connection he added that if in 2009 the mobile internet subscriber’s number amounted to 1,1 mln., in 2010 their number reached 1,343 mln. As of the first quarter of 2011, the subscribers number grossed 1,7 mln.

At the same time the number of broadband Internet subscribers in Armenia totaled 70 thous. in 2009; as of 2010, their number increased to 170 thous., reaching 240 thous. in the first quarter of 2011.

This year, Digitec business forum will feature Microsoft Innovative Forum, DigiTec Business exhibition, as well as number of seminars and conferences, where the latest solutions and services offered to state institutions and businessmen will be presented.
