Sabine Freizer disappointed with results of Kazan meeting

The results of meeting between leaders of Armenia, Russia, Azerbaijan are disappointing, but we still hope for final agreement on basic principles of Nagorno Karabakh conflict, according to International Crisis Group Director Sabine Freizer.

“It would be much better if there was mutual understanding on basic principles between parties, whereas the statement says that the leaders agreed only on some issues. This supposes that there have been some points left in the basic principles that remained disagreed,” said analyst.

Besides, Freizer noted that she still believes in possibility of agreement on the basic principles, as the parties have not been made better proposal till now.

“In order the basic principles to be signed, Serzh Sargsyan, and Ilham Aliyev, as well as people of Armenia and Azerbaijan must be sure that this is the best proposal for the time being,” according to the analyst.

Freizer expressed hope that the Presidents, upon their arrival, each will start the respective work with people. She noted that if talks on basic principles fail, there is a risk of new wave of armed collision between the parties, according to Trend.
