1 kW renewable energy production may require USD 1500 investment in 2016

The director of Renewable Energy and Energy Saving Foundation gave high assessment to current level and development potential of renewable energy in Armenia.

As Tamara Babayan told a news conference in Armenia, the number of licences (130 licences after 2003-2004) issued by a regulatory body proves the above-mentioned.

From the point of view of the investments, before 2009, production cost of 1 kW renewable energy grossed USD 700; at present the figure rose to USD 1200, with production cost of USD 1500 forecasted for 2016-2020.

As the Foundation’s program manager Aram Maranjyan, in turn, noted, until recently, Armenia had the leadership in the sector, yet the country is currently falling behind Turkey. According to Mr. Maranjyan, renewable energy has a 32% share of the whole energy system of Armenia. The country has a major potential in development of geo-energetics, wind energy produced on the basis of ethanol and photovoltaic energy.
