Golden Apricot 2011 to premiere Von Trier's Melancholia in Yerevan

Golden Apricot 2011 international film festival will feature Yerevan premiere of Lars Von Trier's Melancholia, a family drama that takes place in the shadow of an imminent apocalypse.

At Cannes Film Festival Von Trier caused quite a scandal with his statement, “...I found out I was actually a Nazi. My family were German. And that also gave me some pleasure. What can I say? I understand Hitler…I sympathize with him a bit.”

Von Trier qualified that “I don’t mean I’m in favor of World War II and I’m not against Jews.. ”

Although the director issued an apology for his earlier comments, festival organisers said the Danish film-maker was now "persona non grata". Melancholia, however remained in competition at this year's event. Kirsten Dunst starring in the film conquered the Festival by taking the best actress award.

Yerevan will host Golden Apricot 8th international film festival on July 10-17.
