Police Chief: every measure taken to prevent drug transit through Armenia

A sitting of the Coordinating Council of the heads of services for combating drug trafficking of member states of the Collective Security Treaty Organisation (CSTO) with participation of CSTO Secretary General Nikolay Bordyuzha took place in Yerevan.

The sitting was held under the chairmanship of the Federal Drug Control Service of the Russian Federation Viktor Ivanov.

During the sitting, the participants exchanged views on problems of fight against drugs trafficking, as well as development of stable mechanisms of resisting drugs threat coming from Afghanistan.

As head of Armenian police Alik Sargsyan told a briefing, the fight against trafficking of drugs proceeds from state interests of Armenia, and the country cannot fight alone. In this context Sagsyan emphasized importance of cooperation with neighboring countries.

Measures are undertaken to prevent Armenia’s becoming a transit country for drugs trafficking; the situation is under control and there is no reasons for concern, according to the head of police.

Sargsyan noted that on October 12-14, a meeting of CIS Domestic Affairs Ministers and heads of Police will take place in Yerevan, within which they will discuss issues related to fight against drugs trafficking.
