No incident occurred between Georgians and Armenians in Tbilisi

For the last three days, a range of Armenian and Georgian social networks circulated reports on the incident in Tbilisi, Georgia, during which about 10 Georgian teenagers beat 3 Armenians of the same age.

It was noted that this was executed by the Georgian Orthodox Church religious, followed July 10 protest actions held with the blessing of the Catholicos of All Georgia Ilia II.

The protest action aims to condemn decision of the Georgian Parliament to provide 5 religious units status of legal persons of public law.

In this respect the Union of Armenians in Georgia sent a request to Georgia’s law enforcement bodies, however they refuted the information.

Besides, the Union attempted to clear up the situation among Armenians of Georgia, however they, too, did not confirm the information.

“Taking into consideration, we consider the spread information a mere provocation which tries to disrupt relations between two friendly countries,” the statement of the Union of Armenians in Georgia runs.
