Earthquake hits Marmara region of Turkey

A 4.7-magnitude earthquake shook Bilecik, in the Marmara region of Turkey on Monday, July 11 evening.

The quake was felt around the region, including in Istanbul. The Boğaziçi University Kandilli Observatory and Earthquake Research Institute announced that the epicenter of the earthquake was the town of Bozüyük.

Many people panicked and ran out of their buildings into the streets. Patients at the Bilecik hospital were carried outside on wheeled beds.

Two aftershocks occurred Tuesday morning at 7:25 p.m. with a 2.7 magnitude and at 7:29 p.m. with a 3.1 magnitude, causing minor damage to some buildings, Hurriyet Daily News reported.
