Studies over uranium deposits will last more 2-3 years in Armenia, unless it is found out whether there are accumulations in Armenia, and in what volume, according to Armenian Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Armen Movsisyan.

“The works are in progress according to the schedule; geophysical, geochemical and other studies are planned,” the Minister told a press conference in Yerevan.

Movsisyan asserted that no uranium deposit was exploited in Armenia up to date.

It should be noted that the government of Armenia did not provided a license to any company for exploitation of uranium deposits yet, and it is early to speak about ecological threats now. Armenian-Russian mining organization cjsc carries out geological investigations in Lernadzor, Syunik province of Armenia, not far from Kajaran, which arouses ecologists’ concern. Financing of works is provided by the Russian side (nearly AMD 3,5 mln).
