Aronyan: Armenia must compete for first place in all team championships

The winner of World Team Chess Championship Levon Aronyan is happy that the Armenian team could unite and win gold medals.

“We have not been success for several team championships and already started to worry about it. All of us understand that in all team championships we must join our efforts to compete for the first place. Earlier, when we won Olympiad and other contests, we did not want to change anything. But this time we decided to review all over. We even changed our usual place of training sessions. And in principle we succeeded,” Aronyan told chess-news.ru in an interview.

Armenian GM stressed that from team championships, World Championship was the strongest, teams competed till the end and there were no weak.

“In some matches we managed to equal situation after being shaken. And some of them were practically ideal.”

Aronyan acknowledged that having won the victory he is going to have a rest for a week and then start working against.

Armenian men’s chess team under the guidance of Arshak Petrosyan won three gold medals at World Team Chess Championship on July 26 thus becoming World Champion. In 9 rounds, Armenian team scored 5 victories and tied 4 matches. Levon Aronyan, Sergey Movsisyan, Vladimir Akopyan, Gabriel Sargsyan and Robert Hovhannisyan became world champions.
