Medvedev wants to hear replies on Karabakh offers from heads of Armenia and Azerbaijan personally

President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev , obviously, decided to hear answers on his offers over Karabakh conflict settlement from heads of Armenia and Azerbaijan Serzh Sargsyan and Ilham Aliyev personally, which Russian President addressed to both Presidents through Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov after Azeris failed the Kazan meeting. On July 18, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mamedyarov handed over Baku’s reply to Medvedev’s offers during his visit to Moscow. The President of Armenia addressed Yerevan’s official reply on July 22.

However, familiarizing with both of them, Medvedev wanted to discuss the replies with heads of states personally. But this time not during trilateral meeting but separately. And supposedly, therefore he invited Aliyev to Sochi, where the latter traveled on August 9.

Medvedev will meet with the Armenian President anyway, at the unofficial summit of Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) in Kazakhstan, where Sargsyan plans to leave on August 12.

It's anybody's guess, what, in fact, Presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan told Medvedev, since both replies and offers are kept in strict confidentiality. It is not ruled out that Yerevan’s and Baku’s replies brought forth new questions, which Medvedev decided to discuss with Sargsyan and Aliyev one-on-one.
