Russian expert: sources say, Azeri side agreed to Medvedev's proposals on Karabakh

On August 9, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev met with his Azerbaijani counterpart Ilham Aliyev.

As the head of the centre for post-Soviet area studies Alexei Vlasov stated, according to some reports, Azeri side agreed to proposals set out in Russian leader's personal message. “However, the contents of Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan's reply remain unrevealed, which might be the reason behind Medvedev's decision to meet Aliyev, rather than Sargsyan,” the expert said.

As the expert noted, the next trilateral meeting will only be set upon Moscow's receiving guarantees for all conflicting parties to sign the document planned to be concluded in Kazan. “If successful, talks with Aliyev will follow by negotiations with Sargsyan to be concluded by signing of a modified road map,” Vlasov noted.

“If the supposition comes true, the sides might be entering into a new stage of negotiations,” Moskovskie Novosti (Moscow News) cited the expert as saying.
