Armenian opposition submits 85- page paper to prove snap elections necessary

Armenian National Congress (ANC) opposition bloc submitted 85-page document, substantiating the necessity of snap presidential and parliamentary elections, to Armenian authorities’ consideration.

As the head of oppositional delegation Levon Zurabyan told journalists upon completion of opposition-coalition working meeting, “Armenian authorities have neither juridical nor political legitimacy. The document lists 76 parliamentarians engaged in entrepreneurship, counter to legislation. Corruption, serious economic, political and social situation in the country are cited as reasons for pre-term elections.”

As the head of coalition delegation David Harutyunyan, in turn, stated, the authorities disagree with many facts and assessments listed in the document. “Inaccurate facts listed give rise to incorrect inferences,” he said.

“The issues raised at previous meetings, specifically, provision of transportation during ANC rallies, were delegated to bodies in charge,” Harutyunyan remarked.

The next opposition-coalition meeting is due August 16 for the authorities to have enough time to study the document. Today’s negotiations lasted over 5 hours.
