Expert offers South Caucasus Federation formation

Armenian political expert Levon Shirinyan believes that Armenia must elaborate a project of regional integration of the South Caucasus based on the policy of multi-culture, like the European Union.

“The option proposed by the West (Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia) is not advantageous for Armenia. It will be 2 against 1 combination. Whether we wish it or not, Armenia will be an appendage in Georgia’s relations with Azerbaijan, which will coordinate all issues together,” Shirinyan told a press conference in Yerevan.

The expert offers to recognize the republics of Nagorno Karabakh, Abkhazia and South Ossetia and offer cultural autonomy to national minorities. “Besides, Armenia should press for granting Nakhijevan the status envisaged by the Treaties of Kars and Moscow. As a result, a South Caucasus modeled as the European Union will be formed,” he said.
