02.11.2000, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. The trial of the terrorist act against RNK President, committed on March 22, 2000, was resumed today in the Supreme Court of RNK.
As the correspondent of Mediamax reports from Stepanakert, today was the first time Sasun Aghajanian, who is accused of being the direct executor of the terrorist act and was undergoing medical psychiatric examination in Armenia, participated in the trial. S. Aghajanian was brought to court on the basis of the results of October 17 examination, which stated the normal mental condition of the accused.
Judge Suren Alexanian said that on October 30 a medical commission was set up at his request, which carried out Aghajanian's general examination on November 1. The commission confirmed that no chronic diseases were observed as a result of the examination. The psychiatrists, who are in charge of the behavior and health condition of the accused at the trial, confirmed Aghajanian's physical ability and self-control during the examination. However, Aghajanian neither speaks nor reacts to what is going on in the courtroom.
The main accused of the trial - RNK ex defense minister Samvel Babayan doubted the impartiality of the medical-psychiatric examination and declared that independent experts' participation in S. Aghajanian's examination in necessary. The State Prosecutor Mavr Ghukasian considered this inexpedient, as "there were no grounds to doubt Armenian experts who are quite competent and independent".
Sasun Aghajanian's lawyer, Edward Aghajanian, spoke with a solicitation to present to the court the certificate of the results of the complex examination of the physical condition of the accused, held on November 1, to find out whether he was able to participate in the trial.
After the court's on-the-spot consultation, the request was complied with.
