Authorities, ANC agree not to comment on Congress activists detainment

The meeting between the ruling coalition and the Armenian National Congress (ANC) which lasted for 2 hours is already over.

Upon completion, leaders of the working groups – Davit Harutyunyan and Levon Zurabyan – made a joint statement to inform that the meeting focused on the recent detainment of ANC activists and that the next meeting is scheduled for August 19.

Zurabyan also added that the sides agreed to refrain from commenting on the activists’ arrest, neglecting the journalists’ questions regarding the incident.

According to the ANC, on August 9 police officers used violence against ANC activists Tigran Arakelyan and Artak Karapetyan. Upon arrival to the site, activists Areg Gevorgyan, Sahak Muradyan, Vahagn Gevorgyan, Sargis Gevorgyan and David Kirimajyan tried to settle the dispute but were beaten as well, the ANC said. All above-mentioned were taken to a police station.

On their part, the police accused the ANC activists of assault.

Currently, Tigran Arakelyan, Artak Karapetyan and Sargis Gevorgyan are kept in custody. The others were released.
