MP: Baku anchors hopes with Armenian emigration

Both Azerbaijan and Turkey hope that they will be able to resolve the Nagorno Karabakh conflict in their favor due to the increasing emigration from Armenia, an independent Armenian MP said.

“Armenia should keep it mind,” Vardan Khachatryan told a press conference in Yerevan. “With the ongoing blockade, Azerbaijan and Turkey hope to deteriorate the economic situation in Armenia and thus cause great emigration flows.”

As to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s refusal to participate in the CIS summit scheduled for early September, Khachatryan said the Azeri leader has unsettled problems, including the public discontent with constant threats to start a war.

“Azerbaijan wants to squeeze as much as possible from the talks. However, there are no cases in international practice when the defeated side got what it wanted through negotiations,” the MP added.
