Next generation may resolve Karabakh conflict - expert

The United States and Russia, or the European Union should get down to resolving the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, an expert said.

According to Alexander Rar, the OSCE Minsk Group is not the format capable to the settle the conflict. “I do not see any way out, as the sides’ positions and mutually excluding,” he said, quoted by 1news.az.

However, the expert voiced opinion that the next generations which will not be burdened with tragic memories will be able to reach an agreement.

Rar is skeptical about Russia’s mediation amid West’s involvement in Middle East processes. “President Dmitry Medvedev tried the role of a broker, but I think he didn’t succeed. The United States and Europe are too busy with Middle East developments,” he said.

As to the Turkish factor, Rar noted that despite being Azerbaijan’s ally, Turkey is elaborating its own geopolitics and will not bind its national interests with Karabakh. “Turkey will pursue its own interests. Besides, Ankara has a number of unsettled problems with Armenia,” he said.
