TURKEY MAY PURCHASE ELECTRICITY FROM ARMENIA
25.10.2000, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. Despite the recent events connected with discussions of the Armenian Resolution in the US Congress, could also buy electricity from Armenia.
According to the Turkish mass media Turkish Energy Minister Cumhur Ersumer told after talks with the Russian Prime Minister Kasyanov, who is on a three-day trip to Turkey, that Turkey could also buy electricity from Armenia. Actually it is the first time the representative of the Turkish government announced about the possible beginning of economic cooperation with Armenia with which Turkey does not have diplomatic relations. Ersumer noted, that transit of Russian electricity via Georgia is not enough for Turkey's energy demand.
A reliable source in Moscow informed Mediamax that the Prime Minister of Russia Mikhail Kasyanov and the chairman of "RAO EES Rossii" (Russian JSC United Energy System) Anatoliy Chubays really raised during the negotiations with Turkey the issue on transit of the Russian gas to Turkey via the Armenian territory. --0--
