Samsung announces new tablet and smartphone

Samsung announced a new Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 and Galaxy Note smartphone at the IFA trade show in Berlin, Mashable reports.

A new Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 works with Android 3.2 (Honeycomb), sports a 7.7-inch Super AMOLED WXGA display, a 1.4 GHz dual-core processor, 16/32/64 GB of storage memory, as well as 3-megapixel and 2-megapixel cameras. On the connectivity front, it supports Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 3.0 and HSPA+. GPS is also onboard, as is a 5,100 mAh battery, and Samsung managed to squeeze all that into a 0.74 pound, 7.89 mm thin case. A wide range of multimedia applications is supported. It is possible to watch HD video clips, and the device can also be turned into a universal remote control, allowing users to control their TV set and DVD/Blu-ray player.

The Note is a 5.3-inch, Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) smartphone which in many ways doubles as a tablet – for example, it comes with a pen for drawing and note-taking, for those who still prefer it over the good old fingers.

It also has an impressive array of features: a 1.4 GHz CPU, a WXGA Super Amoled display, 1 GB of RAM, 16/32 GB of storage memory and an 8-megapixel camera as well as a 2-megapixel one for video calls. All of this is stuffed into a 9.65 mm thin and 0.39 pounds heavy case, which seems reasonable for a 5.3-inch device.

Samsung plans to release two versions of the device: one supporting HSPA+ and the other with LTE.

The prices and availability of these devices are unknown.
