IN CASE "ARMENIAN" RESOLUTION IS PASSED, TURKEY MAY BACK IRANIAN ROUTE FOR TRANSPORTATION OF TURKMEN GAS
17.10.2000, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. Turkey and Turkmenistan are ready to back Iranian route for transportation of the Turkmen gas. The energy newsletter Petroleum Argus writes that until now Turkey, under US pressure, had been in favor of the Trans-Caspian Gas Pipeline project, which proposes the construction of a pipeline under Caspian Sea.
But after the discussion of the bill on the Armenian Genocide in 1915 in Ottoman Turkey in the US Congress Turkish officials could switch its preference for the gas project to the Iranian route. A land route would anyhow "make better economic sense," Petroleum Argus said adding that the Iranian route "would be much cheaper and capable". --0--
