Sardarapat member: 4th republic will help Armenia achieve true independence

A member of Sardarapat Movement, head of Monte Melkonyan Foundation believes a statehood to be an essential attribute of an independent state.

As Alek Yenigomshyan told a news conference in Yerevan, the oncoming Armenia’s independence 20th anniversary is a suitable occasion to assess the country’s achievements. “20 years ago, we acquired the attributes of a state, yet never managed to form statehood,” Yenigomshyan said.

He characterized liberty, democracy and legitimacy as key attributes of the statehood, which Armenia lacks. “Armenia is politically dependent on Russia, U.S. as well as international structures,” he noted.

Among the country’s significant achievements, Yenigomshyan pointed out Armenia’s becoming a subject of the international law, winning the Nagorno Karabakh war and forming an army.

In conclusion, he expressed confidence that the fourth republic formation in Armenia will help resolve current problems and achieve true independence
