87.7 % OF TURK RESPONDENTS CONSIDER THAT TURKISH PARLIAMENT FAILED TO REACT ON RESOLUTION ON ARMENIAN GENOCIDE
09.10.2000, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. Some 87.7 percent of the respondents in a PR-Gallup public opinion poll believe that the Turkish parliament failed to appropriately react to the draft resolution on the Armenian genocide, which has gone through its second stage in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Commenting the results of the poll the deputy spokesman of Foreign Ministry Huseys Dirioz said that the Turkish parliamentary delegation in Washington is continuing to make efforts on the issue. "But supporters of the resolution are not open to dialogue", - Dirioz stressed.
Some 1,095 respondents in 17 provinces were interviewed face-to-face during the poll from 27 to 29 September. Responding the question "Are the Armenian claims on an act of genocide right or wrong?" 11.7 percent answered that the claims are right, 78.7 percent - claims are wrong while 9.6 percent of respondents said that they have no idea. --0--
