"THE PRESIDENT OF ARMENIA MAY PLAY A DECISIVE ROLE IN THE SETTLEMENT OF THE PARLIAMENT CRISIS", THINKS THE CHAIRMAN OF CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT UNION OF ARMENIA
03.10.2000, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. "We think that the resignation of the speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia was accepted by the parliament of the country and believe that the Constitutional Court of Armenia will confirm this decision", said in the interview to MEDIAMAX the chairman of the Constitutional Right Union of Armenia, deputy of the National Assembly Hrant Khachatrian, commenting upon the appeal of the President of Armenia to the Constitutional court to find out whether the speaker of the parliament can further hold his post or not.
At the same time, Khachatrian thinks that it's not excluded that the Constitutional Court, "favoring" this or that political authority, can deliver "any judgement".
The deputy said that the crisis situation, formed lately in the Armenian parliament, has overlapped the National Assembly and has had a negative influence on the effectiveness of the work of the executive bodies. "Armen Khachatrian's non-standard step exposed the unstable situation, which was formed in Armenia after the tragic events of October 27, 1999", stressed Hrant Khachatrian.
In his opinion, much in the settlement of the conflict could depend on the People's party of Armenia ( PPA), but the latter simultaneously presents the positions of three sides - the electorate, deputies of the PPA and PPA leader Stepan Demirchian, and it's almost impossible to come to an agreement with the PPA due to the switch in its approaches".
Khachatrian thinks that in case the opposition between the parliamentary forces proceeds, "President Kocharian will either suggest or impose definite steps". -0-
