Armenia won’t sacrifice national interests to become European family member - ARFD

A resolution to be submitted at the oncoming Warsaw-hosted EU Eastern Partnership summit hasn’t been coordinated at September 14-15 Euronest Parliamentary Assembly session in Strasbourg.

Commenting on the situation at a news conference in Yerevan, member of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) and Armenian parliamentary delegation Hovhannes Sahakyan said that the Armenian delegation opposed to certain phrasings in the document suggested by Azerbaijani and Georgian delegations.

“The above-mentioned document stipulated for territorial integrity and inviolability of borders as the only principles of international law. As a compromise, Armenian delegation offered to cover all principles of international law, including people’s right to self-determination. European partners, in turn, suggested excluding all 3 stipulations mentioned, which, however, was not supported by Azeri and Georgian delegations as well as the Ukrainian co-chair of Euronest Political Committee,” Sahakyan said.

ARF Dashnaktsutyun member, Lilit Galstyan, in turn, stressed the unity of Armenian delegation in protecting national interests of their country. “Armenia won’t sacrifice its national interests to become a member of the European family,” she said.
