Armenia does not insure foreign investors against phylloxera

Existence of dangerous quarantine pests, phylloxera, destroying vast vineyards all over the world, hinder foreign investments in Armenia, according to chairman of the Union of Winemakers of Armenia.

“Foreign investors are not assured that their vineyards in Ararat Valley, in Vayots Dzor province or somewhere else will not be infected with phylloxera,” Avag Harutyunyan told journalists in Yerevan on September 23.

Here, Harutyunyan added that, on the one hand legislation bans investors from planting sorts of grapes resistant to phylloxera, but on the other hand there are no mechanisms of insurance.
