Armenia’s law enforcement agencies join forces against illegal drug trafficking

Series of steps to combat illegal trafficking were scheduled on the sidelines of police reform project, according to senior deputy chief of Armenian Police.

As Hunan Poghosyan stated during the sitting of the interdepartmental committee for drug addiction and drug trafficking, measures to increase the effectiveness of struggle against trafficking were discussed, with candidatures of the relevant working group members approved.

According to National Security Council (NSC) Secretary Artur Baghdasaryan, EU will allocate Euro 10 mln for implementation of reforms scheduled.

On the initiative of the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, a resolution was passed to form a committee in charge of a program for social rehabilitation of drug addicts, with a special rehabilitation center to be created.

The results of the committee’s activities with be discussed at NSC in January 2012.
