RPA member: NA speaker’s resignation unrelated to Abrahamyan-Tsarukyan tandem

The leader of ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) parliamentary group denied rumors linking parliament speaker Hovik Abrahamyan’s resignation to President Sargsyan’s intention to weaken Abrahamyan-Tsarukyan tandem. (Prosperous Armenia party leader Gagik Tsarukyan is related to Abrahamyan.)

In a conversation with a PanARMENIAN.Net reporter, Galust Sahakyan accused media for blowing up any rumour out of proportion.

As Sahakyan stressed, the only reason behind Abrahamyan’s resignation is a wish to focus on organization of RPA election campaign, the latter being a serious responsibility.

As reported on November 1, Armenian parliament speaker Hovik Abrahamyan will resign his position to head RPA electoral headquarters. As Abrahamyan told journalists after RPA council sitting, after the Party’s suggesting him to head the structure, he resolved to give up the speaker’s post to more effectively conduct the campaign.
