Expert: OSCE Sec. Gen.’s statement on Turkey’s role in Karabakh settlement not serious

Turkey’s involvement in the Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement process is unacceptable, head of the central information department at the office of NKR President said.

Commenting to a PanARMENIAN.Net reporter on OSCE Secretary General Lamberto Zannier’s statement regarding Turkey’s involvement in Karabakh talks, David Babayan noted, “OSCE representatives’ statements run counter to the core doctrine of Karabakh problem, which should be settled in the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group.”

According to Zannier, Turkey’s involvement needs not be an official one. “I am not talking about a formal role in the negotiations, but in real terms. Turkey is bordering both countries involved in the conflict. It is an important actor in the region and it has a political contribution to offer,” he said.

“Turkey’s pro-Azerbaijani position rules out its involvement in Karabakh process,” Babayan stated in response to Zanier’s statement, adding that Ankara’s engagement in the process will bring no tangible results.

Dwelling on whether the Armenian side should somehow react to Zannier’s statement, Babayan noted that only expert-level reaction to the issue should be expected.
